Ella is an excellent private investigator and she’s got one heck of a case on her hands. PePrs are disappearing, falling completely off the grid with no way to recover them. The number of disappearances has grown so high that disturbing rumors are beginning to circulate. The worst one for the humans is that the underground has finally reached the city. The very notion of escaping PePrs, left to their own devices, and quite possibly looking for payback against their less-than-kind owners, is making the humans jumpy.
And that makes those humans willing to hand over a very big paycheck if Ella can find the underground. More if she can break the system that is funneling all that sentient property out of the city. Ella’s boss is eager for that paycheck, but when he calls her into the office one day to give her the worst news possible, she’s no longer sure which side she should be working for.
As Ella and her new trainee – a sex-bot reject with no sense whatsoever—scour the city and follow a tantalizing trail of clues, everything she thought she knew about the world is called into question. If she’s not careful, it could also mean the end of her existence…or an entirely new beginning.

These stories are fun. As each story is released there's more world building and although you don't need to read them in any order the world becomes more complex/complete as you read each story. So far each story has been about 1 or 2 Perfect Partners (PePr) getting out of a bad situation and dropping off the grid, but this time it's different. This story is about many PePr's escaping so many that humans are taking notice and they want to stop it... and I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the robot uprising maybe just around the corner... but seriously who am I to second guess an author? So grab the books and see if my prediction is right! Whatever happens it is sure to be fun!Product details

Hope/Less Perfect Partners Incorporated Book 6 eBook Ann Christy Reviews
It isn't about androids, it's about us.
Read it and look and see who is in it.
Maybe a friend of relative of maybe you.
I don't know where to start... This story is so sad but yet it's wonderful at the same time.
Ella is a PePr, a synthetic being who become sentient. After working for a ten years for a private investigator, she learns that her owner is planning to have her traded in for a newer model. It's ironic that her last assignment is to track down and dismantle an underground network that works to free PePrs.
Ella wants to be free, but she wants to be free legally, not just on the run. She has hopes that someday PePrs will be manumitted, but she's afraid that it won't be soon enough for her.
I feel horrible for Ella. She's worked hard and done her best, and now she finds herself torn between running to survive, or risking being wiped clean, losing who she is.
This was a deeply emotional story for me... One of the best in the author's PePr series.
NOTE This story takes place prior to "Posthumous" in the PePr timeline of events.
Even though I've enjoyed her other robot stories tremendously, I put off reading this because I've read so many detective books in the past was bored with the genre.
Having read most of Ann Christy's other books, I've discovered that despite the genre, her stories are unique and unexpected.
I really like AI stories and Christy has thought up a very interesting kind of artificial life, half robot, half android. The concept of a detective robot is intriguing and well motivated. An excellent read.
I don't want to do a spoiler on the book. Suffice it to say that I LOVED it. I love this whole series. While Dogcatcher will most likely remain my favorite and I still think the author should do a full length book on the subject (hint hint) I like this too. I understand that she is releasing the anthology of all the PePr stories into one book but I liked reading them as they came out too. Great price they are all 99 cents.
This author is amazing! I discovered her when I was looking for more books by Hugh Howey last month. I didn't even know other authors were writing more books in his "Silo" world. I bought one of hers to try it out. Loved it and bought, read, and loved every one in this series. Bought, read, and loved all of her other series Between Life and Death, PePrs, Strikers . . . .
I love Ann Christy's robots - or PePrs as they are called - so perfectly imperfect that they seem like natural beings, indeed they are almost human. She takes us into the world, and the minds, of these constructed yet conscious humanoids and makes us identify with each one of them. I would even say that she makes me want to be one of them! I've read all six of the Perfect Partners novellas, and with each new story I've thought 'Oh, this one is my favorite!' The books can be read in any order as they are not sequels and each one has completely different characters while being set in the same world. But I'm glad I read Hope/Less last because it's a real treat and I 'hope/more' of these delightful stories are on the way!
